Anbu Illam was started by Dr. S. Cletus Babu, Founder and Chairman and Dr.J.X.Amali Babu, Vice Chairperson, in 1986 with 20 differently abled children.

Anbu Illam which is formally registered as ‘SCAD Special School for the Cerebral Palsy, Autism and Multiple Disabilities’ has been on the march ever since and is tutoring 66 students this academic year.

The cornerstone of the toy library movement is the primacy of play for children and the concept of a toy library has been effectively set up in the school which is now a landmark of the school. All children need to play and have a right to play. Children of all ages should be able to play freely and confidently on their own and with other children.

Play has long been acknowledged as a crucial factor in children’s development, linked to intellectual, motor and personal and social development. Play is related to the development of creativity, healthy brain development, self-confidence, resilience and health and fitness.

The Toy Library lends out or hires toys, puzzles and games, functioning as a form of the school’s resource program.

The library offers play sessions for the differently abled children of the school and a wide range of toys appropriate for students at different stages, in their development.

It provides children with new toys every week or two, saving parents’ money and keeping children from getting bored.

We believe that every differently abled child should be provided with sufficient space to have enough fun among themselves and learn from their fun. The toy library paves way for them to have good fun and learn from the movements of toys.

The toy library inspires teachers’ and parental involvement in the students’ and differently abled children’s play and education, and it is widely evidenced to be associated with better outcomes for the differently abled children.

More than 30 students visit the library on an everyday basis and get benefitted from it. The teachers who engage the children in the toy library provide conducive atmosphere to the students through various toys and puzzles available in the library.
